Taking TIVA into the 21st Century is co-sponsored by TRUE Research Foundation and The Triservice
Anesthesia Research Group Initiative on TIVA
(TARGIT). The objective of this symposium is to provide education on Total
Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA).
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Communicate the clinical benefits of TIVA.
- Introduce practical applications of TIVA into clinical practice.
- Comprehend rational drug choices when delivering TIVA.
- Understand the concept of target-controlled infusions (TCI).
- Generate improved perioperative care through IV adjuncts.
- Appreciate the roles TIVA will play in the future.
The TARGIT
Center houses the initiative to promote the use of TIVA within the U.S. armed forces.
The TARGIT Center was created to develop techniques and strategies that will lead
to the advancement, research, education and implementation of total intravenous
anesthesia on the battlefield and in austere environments.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance
with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the University of
Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Medical School (UTHSCSA)
and the TRUE Research Foundation. UTHSCSA is accredited by
the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.
UTHSCSA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14.25
category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the
educational activity.
The University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio, School of Nursing, is an approved provider
of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver
by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This activity meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing
education requirements toward relicensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners
for the State of Texas.
This education program offers up to 17.1
